Our History

Since 1947, KOMINE has been part of the evolution of motorcycling in Japan and beyond. What began as a small Tokyo workshop making bicycle and motorcycle parts grew into one of the world’s leading motorcycle safety brands. By the 1970s we shifted focus from the machine to the rider — protecting the people who ride them.

KOMINE Through the Years

1947
KOMINE was founded in Tokyo as a supplier of bicycle parts and inner tubes, operating initially under the name Komine Shokai.
1950s
Expanded into motorcycle components and engine kits, supporting Japan’s postwar motorization and supplying parts to numerous domestic manufacturers.
1960s–70s
Shifted focus from vehicle production to rider gear and accessories. Opened dedicated factories for helmets and leather riding apparel, later becoming the first Japanese maker to pass the U.S. Snell helmet standard.
1980s–90s
Expanded retail presence across Japan and launched industry-leading protective wear, including early adoption of composite helmet materials and standardized protectors.
2000s
Introduced CE-certified protectors and broadened product lines to include jackets, pants, gloves, and accessories emphasizing certified impact protection.
2010s
Reorganized as KOMINE Co., Ltd. and launched KOMINE LAB (2019) — an in-house research center for scientific product testing. Began systematic testing on insulation, impact protection, and rider visibility.
2020s
Strengthened global distribution and formed strategic partnerships to expand international reach. KOMINE products are distributed in 14+ countries, combining Japanese craftsmanship with global standards.

Our Commitment

For more than 70 years, KOMINE has pursued one goal: equipment that keeps riders safer, more comfortable, and more confident. We continue to innovate in active safety (visibility and accident prevention), passive safety (impact protection), and practical, high-value design—so every rider can enjoy the road with greater peace of mind.
